Looking Ahead: 2010

Ever since I started keeping a journal at age 12, I’ve taken some time each January to look back over the past year, and look forward to the next one.

I’m looking forward to the coming year with excitement and a little uncertainty. I’ve finished studying for the time being, and after a brief sojourn in the “real world” I will spend 10 months as an intern with the Navigators, one of the Christian groups on campus. As the intern, I’ll be helping to organise events, running a weekly small group bible study and various other tasks. I’ll also be spending time working through personal and spiritual development modules.

Alongside interning, I’m vice president of the University dance club, and have just shifted into a flat with a distinctive community outreach focus. All these link together quite well and the flat is planning to host many after dance gatherings as well as a Navs small group and at least one of the Navs social events.

This year I didn’t write any resolutions. Instead I have dreams for what may happen during the year:

  1. That the flat would be a place of comfort and sanctuary for all who need it
  2. That the students in the Navigators groups would grow deeper in their understanding of and love for God, and closer in their relationships with each other
  3. That there would be a sense of unity of purpose amongst the Christian groups on campus, and that the wider campus community would sense this
  4. That all who come would feel welcome and accepted at Navs, dance and the flat

I hope that each of these will be achieved. If they are, then each of the flatmates, the Navs leaders, and the dance committee have fulfilled their roles admirably.

2010 is going to be a busy and rewarding year. I’m looking forward to it, I hope you are too!
